Kids & Chores: Is there an App for that?
I think teaching the kids to help out around the house is a bit like teaching them good manners. If they don’t do it at home, it will not magically happen when they go to someone else’s home.
I am not talking scrubbing the flours like something out of Cinderella. All I want is a bit of cleaning up after yourself.
Here are a few things that I think my kids should help with and or do without 10 reminders (or screaming at 11):
- Pick up dirty clothes and towels off the flours - Put away their dishes after a meal - Clean-up the mess after a playdate - Find clothes & dress yourself for school - Finish homework - Keep their back pack reasonably clean - Bath & brush teeth - Go to sleep on time - Sit down at least most of the time during dinnerI think the above are mostly about forming good habits and consistency. I have made some progress with reminders and some rewards.
And yes there is an app for that - i Reward Chart
I Reward Chat Demo here by App Calendar.
Why I like it:
- The ability to add your Child’s Photo. Kids love seeing themselves!
- I can fully customize behaviors and activities to track.
- It offers a great reward bank with custom awards (ice cream or computer time, you choose).
- Its super easy to use for kids and grown-ups.
- I can just hand over the phone versus having to log-on to a website.
- You can update your Twitter or Facebook account with your child’s progress to show off your parenting skills.
- You can even use it for yourself because we all need some reminders and rewards.
I am so loving this app. I am happy there is an App for that!
What do you do to get your kids to do stuff? Chores? Behavior?
