Mobile App Security Study: Should We be Worried About it?
According to a new study done by Ziff Davis and paid for by Entrust, an identity-based security solutions company, security might be preventing companies from rolling-out Apps. The Online survey was conducted with 287+ companies.
Here are some highlights:
- 80% of those surveyed offer online transactions of some sort for users who come to their Web sites
- Many of these organizations, however, do not yet offer this same capability to mobile users.
- Those that do, only 31% of the online services and capabilities are available via the mobile platform.
- 50% of organizations that had not deployed mobile applications ranked security as 1 of their top 3 concerns.
- More than 40% with mobile applications continued to rank security as a key concern.
- Top security concerns among those who have not rolled out Mobile Apps: Data Encryption 57%, Authentication 40% and Variety Mobile Device specs 37%
While I know this is an IT security firm’s commissioned study, I think it raises valid concerns around mobile app security. How secure is that mobile app? Are companies being too cautious? It be great to hear what you think.
